Villa Gerini

La villa, circondata da un ampio parco, risulta documentata come residenza extraurbana fin dal quattordicesimo secolo, quando ne era proprietaria la famiglia fiorentina dei Cappelli. Verso la metà del Seicento passa ai Capponi, che la lasceranno in eredità alla famiglia Del Benino. Nella seconda metà dell'Ottocento diviene proprietario il Marchese Carlo Gerini, a cui si devono l'aspetto e la denominazione odierna della villa. L'edificio è stato oggetto di continue e rielaborazioni lungo l'arco dei secoli; l'aspetto severo e le monumentali dimensioni odierne derivano in gran parte dagli interventi condotti dalla famiglia Gerini. Il parco risalente al XIX secolo, a seguito di una trasformazione di orti e poderi circostanti, è composto da un boschetto di lecci tagliato da vialetti , da un parterre a prato con ornamenti e vasche in pietra e da un lago artificiale nel mezzo del quale affiorano due isolotti che ospitano un padiglione destinato a sala da tè.

This villa, which is surrounded by a large park, is recorded as an out-of-town residence from as early as the 14th century, when the Florentine Cappelli family were the owners. In the mid-17th century it passed into the hands of the Capponi family, who bequeathed it to the Del Benino family. In the second half of the 19th century it was owned by the marquis Carlo Gerini, who gave the villa the appearance it retains to this day, and its present name. The building was much remodelled down the centuries: the austere appearance and monumental dimensions seen today are largely the result of alterations made by the Gerini family. The park, which was laid out in the 19th century when the surrounding vegetable gardens and other parcels of land were joined together, takes the form of a wood of holm-oaks, crossed by pathways, with a parterre in the form of a lawn adorned with stone basins, and an artificial lake with two islets in the middle, on which a pavilion used as a tea-house stands.
